Diabetes mellitus has become a serious and chronic metabolic disorder that results from complex interaction of genetic environmental factors, principally characterized by hyperglycemia, polyuria, polyphagia. Uncontrolled high blood sugar can result in host diabetic complications. Prolonged diabetes leads to complications some which are life-threatening. The prevalence patients is rising at epidemic proportions throughout the world. Every year, major portion annual health budget spent on related illnesses. Multiple risk factors involved etiopathogenesis disease turning into an epidemic. Diabetes, for there no cure, apparently be kept under control maintaining self-care daily living, effective education, with comprehensive improvements knowledge, attitudes, skills, management. In this review, we focused biochemical aspects diabetes, including both genetic, complications, diagnosis, management, currently available medications treatment diabetes.
